Three goalless quarters saw Swan Districts go down to a surging Subiaco Lions outfit by 28 points on Sunday afternoon.

From the get go, the Sunday morning Round 16 Rogers Cup match up at Leederville Oval saw the Lions make their charge.

Opening proceedings with two unanswered goals and several more scoring opportunities in the opening term, the home side found themselves up 15 points at the first break.

Within the opening three minutes of the second quarter, Chanel Jetta converted a must-needed goal for the Swans – but it’d be their only for the game.

While dominating play and regularly winning the ball inside 50, the Lions' skill and poise around the ground was not reflected on the scoreboard. The maroon and gold missed several opportunities in front of goal to put away the Swans early on – amassing three behinds in the second term, and a further five in the third.

An 18-point deficit at the main break saw the Swans with a case to answer to – but Subiaco’s quick ball movement, prolific tackling pressure and hard running made things a bit too difficult for the away side.

Both sides impressed defensively, amassing several defensive marks from opposition entries inside 50.

Coming off the back of a five-goal haul against the Perth Angels the week prior, Subiaco’s Kia Buckley continued her impressive form – her marking power and ability to create space amidst packed contests was influential.

With two goals to her name, Abbey Dowrick finished as the game’s leading goalkicker and one of Subiaco’s best.

Aimee Williams’ strong marking, leads and ball carry made her one of the Swan’s strongest performers all morning.

With finals on the horizon, the loss put the Swans in a difficult position as they now sit outside the top four in fifth position – just two points behind fourth ranked East Fremantle. On the flip side of the coin, finals-bound Subiaco retain their comfortable spot in third.
