Coastal Titans outrun Swan Districts to claim their sixth premiership in ten years.

The Coastal Titans have continued their dominance of the League competition with their four goal victory over Swan Districts in the 2015 League Grand Final.

Neither team could break the match open in a tight contest early on in the play. Kellie Maree-Gibson of Swan Districts provided a moment for the highlights reel as she helped her team to one of their two opening quarter goals with a fifty meter drop punt of gold. It bounced perfectly through the goal posts, but didn’t set the tone for the remainder of the game.

The Swans failed to move the ball inside their forward 50 and were forced into defensive play for a heavy part of the four quarters. It was only a single point that separated the two sides at quarter time, with Swan Districts holding the lead.

Unsurprising Louise Knitter Best on Ground medal winner, Kiara Bowers, once again proved why she is one of the best footballers in the country. Her clearances and importance around stoppages opened the door for many Titan goal opportunities. She was the only goal kicker of the second quarter, as the match still offered no standout side.

This changed after half time, courtesy of the Titans as Renee Forth had two shots on goal within the first two minutes of the third quarter to extend her teams lead even further.

Whilst the Titans looked dangerous, heading into the final change with a 14 point lead, the match was no where near won. Entering the final term, the Swans needed to more than double their score of 14 and hold the Titans goalless to claim victory. The hope of winning was minimised with an early Titan fourth quarter goal courtesy of Dana Hooker to blow the lead out to 20 points.

The sealer arrived with a contested grab from Titan tall Sara Lewis just minutes from her teams triumphant finish. Kicking true, she put the Titans in the lead by 30 points, the largest margin of the match, though the Swans replied with quick goal to bring the margin back to 24.

It was a devastating loss for Swan Districts, who have taken out the last two premierships. Whilst the Titans were not perfect in front of goal, their attack on the ball and defensive pressure saw them kick enough majors to cement a grand final victory.

Season 2015 began for the Coastal Titans with a textbook seven goal round one victory over the Swans, to which they claimed first spot on the ladder. It’s now well and truly clear that they never looked back.

They backed up a stellar year with an even more motivated performance and rightly deserve to add the new silver wear to their trophy case.

Final Score: Coastal Titans 6.8 (44) def Swan Districts 3.2 (20)
